EOCENE FOSSIL FISH 20x24 (MF-3)

Green River, Wyoming, 20" x 24"

This selection of authentic fossilized fish comes from the badlands of Wyoming, near Green River. Called Knightia and Diplomystus, these fish flourished during the Eocene epoch about 50 million years ago.

Though now extinct, both are close relatives to the modern day herring and alewife.

The limestone matrix that houses the fish specimens is very unstable, resulting in a fragile fossil that must be carefully prepared to retain exquisite detail.
