Systemae Trio 16x20 (SGO-5)

South America, 16" x 20"

This is a relatively uncommon species of Damselfly from a single remote location in central Peru that so closely resembles a Helicopter Damselfly - the world's largest Odonata - as to be mistaken for its tiny sibling. It exhibits many of the same characteristics - including a passion for arachnids and other soft-bodied invertebrates - but no one could confuse the two in flight. Apart from an obvious size disparity, this smaller species' wing beat is much faster and more typical of the family.

For such a delicate and fragile insect, it composes a rather bold and stately piece.
